I Whacked it on the edge of the rotor, and that worked. Yes, the rotor was
trash after that, but.....so what??

Actually, the place you want to hit it is on the face of the hub between
the lug studs. Of course, if you have a rust lip on the part of the hub
that sticks out past the rotor, you'll still have a problem, but hitting it
here will break up the rust holding it to the hub better than hitting the
back of the rotor.
And if you get it off, use a wire wheel to clean up the hub's face so the
next rotor seats properly.
