   I thought the cats were a bit lower on the engine...
   A friend of mine has been going through this with his Dakota R/T.  He got good braided stainless (was actually a ground strap) and used it, along with aluminum duct tape, to shield the wires after fixing the ones that were being chewed.  In his case, it was the injector harness.
   As for keeping them out of there, good luck.  They come for the warmth at night, and can climb onto the car from pretty much every direction.  Perhaps a 4' wide band of glue trap all the way around as well as dangling fly strips for the jumpers?
