[Shotimes] (OT) Dr. Phil compensating for ...?

For the same reason people buy Buicks..

HDs are a different bike experience. Hell, my '79 XS11 Special has around 90
HP (probably more with the too-loud Kerker 4-in-1 on it). But, after being
the first 11-second bike in '78, 600cc sport bikes can blow it away today.

You're right Ron, it is a bad idea perfected. the problem is that since the
V-twin fits the image, no one will look elsewhere even when it has serious
limitations, cooling being one of them (rear cylinder temps are very high on
V-twins typically) instead they throw a some cash and effort at a problem
and try and improve it.....

i think the numbers speak for themsleves -

HD 1800cc 67hp (RoadKing)

BMW 1200cc 167hp (K1200s)

You do the math and tell me who has figured out how to build the better
engine, and who is stuck in the stone age. I shouldn't have to replace my
engine on my bike as an upgrade... especially when the bike costs about
$25k!

Less money, way less weight, more technology, more power...... why do
people continue to buy HDs?

Not much different than those '60s cars!! ;-)

Stiff chassis, disk brakes, modern tires, and the engines are aftermarket
and "modernized" as much as that engine can be.

Harley engines are much like the description that folks use about the 911:
"A bad idea perfected"!!

As cruisers, they are fine. My beef is that I am not in cruising bikes. If I
wanted to cruise, I would get either a full-dress GW or BMW.

Refer to me technology used in their bikes...... So far it all looks like a
couple guys with some catalogs and a welder.

Out of the list of 11 cars, only two have "more technology" than the bikes,
Z06 and AMG 55. And I'm being generous with the Z06. I call it that way for
non-engine things like the brakes/suspension/body. The engine is probably
comparable to the V-Twins they use, which are tweaked beyond the factory
stockers.

Nah, they are all great examples of more technology than is seen in any of
his bikes.
