I have found only three companies that make decent snap ring pliers.
Hi-Tech is the first one that makes really high quality and high priced snap
ring pliers. There are three pairs in the set and the set retails for
$111.00 but I can get it for $70. The have interchangeable tips that slide
into a broached hole so they cannot rotate. The second, which I have not
used personally is made by SPC and may go under the name OTC (Ottawa Tool
Company). These are also well made but I am unsure of the price. The last
ones are made by Waldes Tru-Arc. They do not have replaceable tips and are
manufactured to fit only specific sizes of snap ring (you need several pair
to cover the range) but they are without a doubt the hardiest ones you can
get for production assembly style work.
I bought the Hi-Tech set myself but I have used the Waldes pliers
extensively back when America still had a Machine Tool Industry.

Subject: [Shotimes] Rear brake caliper reassembly!
Hi,
I've powder coated my brakes on my 95 MTX and I disassembled
the rear calipers so I could cook them at 400F. Well,
reassembly is not easy. Putting the snap ring in place is
terrible. I got one in but it took several hours and I had
to grind on my snap ring plyers to get them to fit in the
bore at all.
Any words of wisdom on this? I'm using an old craftsman
2 bolt wheel puller to compress the spring. It's pretty
close to the picture of the ford compressor in the
manual.
Any source for better snap ring plyers?
Thanks!
Ed
