Half way up on the temp gauge is nothing!

It's got to get way past the "normal" marking to mean anything at all.

Likely no damage will occur until it is at the top.

So, the running warmer than normal didn't do much.

Likely the crank sensor went to lunch.

Many on the list have replaced this several times, and it isn't all 
that hard.  Best replace the waterpump and timing belt while your 
at it.
