Let's assume that the filter caught whatever is in it now. Even if it is
full and starts to bypass what is already caught will stay in the filter. I
doubt the filter is full so changing it really isn't needed. Besides if a
new engine is throwing enough metal into the filter to clog it he will know
soon enough.

C'mon, Daniel....

if you have metal particles in the oil (not unexpected under the
circumstances) then
you have metal particles in the  filter. 

Why would you take the chance of circulating new oil through a contaminated
filter, to possibly re-distribute some of the metal contained within through
your expensive engine....for the relatively EXTREMELY minor cost of a new
filter?
