[Spridgets] Fuel pump question --- NOT LBC!!

This is fuel injection...Right?

Did you check to see if the inertial cut off switch triggered?
Sometimes this falsely triggers when the hatch back is slamed shut.
I don't think this is your issue but it is something to always check first
before pulling the pump out.

The best way to make sure it is working is by measuring pressure on the fuel
rail schrader valve by the injectors.

What happens with the Ford fuel pumps is after high mileage, they tend to
stick when it's hot out and the car won't start. Sometimes the car will
start again after it's left to cool overnight (or even an hour or so).

This all means that it is pump replacement time. Even if you get it running
on the bench you will risk it failing again after you put it back in.
Just bite the bullet and get a new pump.

When I had the pump changed on my 03 Sport Trac the mechanic indicated that
the replacement Ford pumps were improved to better tolerate the high ethanol
content that is now prevalent.

BTW, Neglecting to change the fuel filter ever 20K miles also leads to
pre-mature pump failure. So order a new fuel filter when you order the
pump.
You'll also need the special fuel line fitting tools that go for about $20.

Subject: [Spridgets] Fuel pump question --- NOT LBC!!

Just came back from my boys house..
he asked me for help on his Ford Probe (Sorry!),,, no fuel getting up
front and the fuel light is ON... he has (had) gas in the tank...
We 'think' we hear the fuel relay click when you turn the key.

He dropped the tank and removed the pump to bench test.
The pump runs when 12V is applied to the terminals BUT (here's the
question), should there be enough pressure or vacuum at the pump so
that I could feel it with my fingers??
I feel no pressure even tho' the pump is running..

TIA
