Does anyone know that they will typically fail or is it just the word
because they are cheaper and somehow more expensive is always better? --

You should weigh the cost of these "cheap" balljoints against the price
of their failure.

Also, if you're redoing the front end then the extra $120 that getting
real balljoints from Rick will cost you is a pretty small part of the
total parts and labor amount.
