[Tigers] Hood and scoops

On the subject of hoods....I was measuring to possibly  put a scoop on an 
old Alpine hood and I noticed that the center of my air  cleaner seems to be 
about 3/4" closer to the hood edge opening on the driver's  side than on the 
passenger side.
Are all cars like this?  I have an Edelbrock  intake and carb.  Is it my 
replacement parts that cause this or is it the  same on the stock set-up?
