	The Stock Ford distributor has no retard movement as you describe.
I'm not familiar with the internals of the Mallory but I would investigate
that first.   You should try to find an exploded view of your distributor
with a description of each part.

10 degrees retard at the rotor should be 20 degrees retard at the crank.

Re: degrees of movement:
The 15 degrees of movement is distributor degrees (counter-clockwise, left).
And to confirm, from it's resting place, the rotor can also be rotated 10
degrees in the opposite direction (clockwise - to the right) which I
referred to as "retard". Mechanic buddy had the exact same reaction as you,
that it does not make sense to mfr it with opposite movement.

Interesting point on the coil.
