[Tigers] Timing deviates - advice needed

I would also agree with Ron the retard thing doesn't make any sense. Also
the 15 degree is also too much mechanical advance, that's 30 degrees on the
crank, normally 20 degrees or less is more than enough. When I set up a
dist. I set up a max of 36 degrees (at 2500 RPM) mechanical and with 20 or
LESS will give me about 16 or LESS at idle. Works very well. Remember
it's the MAX mechanical advance that's important not the idle.

Gary
The Stock Ford distributor has no retard movement as you describe.
I'm not familiar with the internals of the Mallory but I would investigate
that first. You should try to find an exploded view of your distributor
with a description of each part.

10 degrees retard at the rotor should be 20 degrees retard at the crank.

Re: degrees of movement:
The 15 degrees of movement is distributor degrees (counter-clockwise, left).
And to confirm, from it's resting place, the rotor can also be rotated 10
degrees in the opposite direction (clockwise - to the right) which I
referred to as "retard". Mechanic buddy had the exact same reaction as you,
that it does not make sense to mfr it with opposite movement.

Interesting point on the coil.
