[Tigers] Recent Auction Sales

Good point.and that's exactly what I meant by the "double-edged sword"
comment. I've owned Tigers since 1979; my current car (my fourth Tiger) has
been under my ownership since 1995. Suffice it to say that had I bought one
recently to restore, I would certainly be in the same position which you
describe. The way it worked out, however, I bought mine when they were
still pretty reasonable (twenty years ago), so I found myself in a pretty
good position to spend a little money recently on its freshening. In
addition, I have also been collecting parts for the last twenty years with
an eye toward doing what I've just done to my car. Hang in there.there are
still deals to be had and folks who will help you out toward your goal.

Up until recently, the Tiger has always enjoyed the status of a wonderful
"enthusiast's car." Now, however, the prices have gotten to the point where
the speculators are getting interested. I suppose it's the natural
progression of the market for cars like ours. We'll just have to sit back
and see what happens; it's truly out of our hands at this point.

Problem is those of us that bought our cars to restore are now seeing our
budgets getting blown out of the water. I did build in extra for unforeseen
costs but the price of some parts are now double and sometimes triple what
they should be. My Tiger may be sitting longer for completion then I thought
and that is a shame. This keeps up I will be priced out of the restoration
and may have to sell. It's great the Tiger is getting the recognition it
deserves but those of us who do not have deep pockets are going to be pushed
out by investors who have those pockets and really only care about turning
the profit.

Hey, Tom:

With regards to raising the coverage on our Tigers...I just did this
morning!!!!! Of course, I've just finished that huge project on mine and it
needed to be raised anyway. It does appear that Tigers are finally becoming
seriously collectible, which is a double-edged sword of sorts, I suppose.
I'm just glad I've got mine!!!

BTW...the car in question appeared to still be wearing its original paint
under the hood. It looked to me like the shade of green on the body was a
bit lighter than what was in the engine compartment. It also had an
aftermarket steering wheel and, from what I could tell, an incorrect amp
gauge, too. Considering all of this, I was pretty surprised to see it bring
that kind of money.

It came with LAT 70s and a LAT hood, but I can't remember if it had a
hardtop with it.
