Colour code 86 Forest Green was Rootes poor attempt at BRG. If you want a great authentic British Green go for BRG, very common on Jaguars etc.

I?m scanning back in my memory to recall Jay?s dad?s Tiger the times I saw it at Woodley Park (and for that matter when Jay had it at the Calabasas fire station). It was, I thought a nice color. Likely my first color of choice for a factory Tiger color. Like many things Tiger it might be that each color batch was slightly different. And perhaps different UV exposure and even waxing treatments alter the shade. For those who know the off term for the acronym NTSC (Nation Television Standards Committee) you know what I mean.

One of our local owners had his Tiger repainted in what he said was an exact match to his original 86. To my eye, it looks closer to the old military olive drab, than any nice green. My original 86 green looked greener than that, but I just picked a nicer green out of the sample book and went with that. Still happy with the results.

If you see a green Tiger and think to yourself, "That is a really attractive shade of green. I like it!" Its not original.

To my eye Forest Green is one of the most gawdawful shades of green on any car any where.

so thankful the previous owner resprayed my car to carnival red

A couple years ago at the TE/AE United, I entered my car in the stock concours category just to get some tips on originality for my car. There were three of us there with Code 86 cars, and we were all very different colors. In the stock category! And while I was pinged a whole point for missing a wiring clip, none of us were pinged for having the wrong color. So I'm not sure you'll get a straight answer on the true 86 hue.

FWIW, to me, the color code *86 Foirest Green looks like someone took a nice
"forest green" and dumped some milk in it. Not pretty.
I much prefer the 1971-1972 Jaguar Racing Green. To me it embodies the true
spirit of a British Racing Green. As it happens my street Tiger is this
color. Also, all three Sunbeam Lister Tigers are just about spot-on to this
color.

I think Darrell nailed it! I think my dad's/my Tiger is that color, with
some, but not all of the milk removed.

BTW, Another thing I learned from the Brits, there is no standard for ?British Racing Green? (BRG) in the period of our cars? probably the same today. Look at Aston Martin?s BRG. It is a relatively light, metallic green with a hint of blue. Then the Lister BRG, Lotus? BRG, Morgan?s BRG (a color match for John Deere tractor green), and Rootes Group?s Forest Green. They are all very different greens.
