[Tigers] Forest green

Evening folks: 

I am thinking that most of you might read this as I
have been following the posts regarding Rootes paint codes. Centered
around Code 86, Forest Green, however this applies to most of the paint
they used in the 60's. 

I have a RHD Alpine of which I am the second
owner/custodian, it too is paint code 86 and has not been painted. I
noted the discussion about the milky color that Sunbeams seemed to
attained about the time we acquired them. I had shown my 1965 RHD Alpine
to the painter that works on my vintage cars and any newer owns. His
first comment was the paint had faded because it was alkaline based.
This caused the 'milky' look as the paint aged. Painting has progressed
and colors have become more vibrant and true, the GS280 code I used to
restore my 1966 tiger is true to Rootes code 86 as I know the research
that went into to matching it along with the matching paint chip I
personally researched when looking for paint. I know the 2 DuPont reps
that completed the research using old paint charts and codes since they
had them from the 60's. I believe at lease part of the key is the
alkaline based since the fade factor was directly impacted by sunlight,
something that has long since been taken care of by new paint
compositions. 

It is good to retain the history of our historic
vehicles.

Formula Ford, I painted it Jaguar BRG (and John Deere yellow). It was
very close to the BRG on the Tiger as I received it 30 years ago or so.
I should not have said that none of us got pinged any points - I can't
swear by the others. I can only swear I wasn't pinged any points at the
concours for what I know is not the stock color.
