[TR] carb tuning

The lift-the-piston method of tuning only works on pre-emissions carbs (SU).  That is because the SU needles were profiled to do that.  However that makes them run too rich to meet US emissions standards.
The factory method is to use a gas sniffer.  So, yes, you should borrow a Gunson or similar device.

i have a 72 TR6 with triple carbs.  the engine now has about 400 miles on it, and i am pretty sure the carbs are too rich.

i am aware of the lift-a--piston method of tuning the carbs.

i am wondering if it is worth getting a gunson tuning setup or what is the best method for ensuring the carbs are correctly tuned.

i know i need to ascertain the valve gap and timing first.
