[Zmagnette] Badge Bars

An update on the “new” badge bar being made.

I am one of those who, for the most part, doesn’t like to “clog” up the group messages w/stuff that doesn’t pertain to all, or at least most, of the Group. Hence, I have not continued to update the entire group about the new badge bar, its status, etc.

However, it seems like some are wondering about badge bars, etc. There is, as most of you know, the somewhat “traditional” badge bar, which is bolted to the front of the bonnet/hood. Necessitates drilling 2 holes in the hood, and IMHO, holds relatively few badges, and I for one, am not fond of the look, nor the fact that the badge bar ends up looking a bit like a grab handle for the bonnet/hood. Sorry if I’ve no doubt offended some w/that design . . . . that’s my opinion ONLY.

Since this has all been stated before, I’ll try to make it brief. While in the UK last year, Allen and I met Trevor Jones, a prototype engineer. Turns out, he has the original badge bar from one of his Magnettes, and it is exactly what I was trying to make myself. In short, Trevor had revised and updated the design a bit, increasing the arc of the curve a wee bit, to absolutely ensure that the bonnet/hood will completely and totally miss the badge bar. The bar will require NO new holes in anything. It will mount under the driving lights, “sandwiched” between the driving light and the driving light bracket, as found on the front over rider.

Presently, Trevor (in the UK) is making progress towards production. The plan is that when Trevor makes another business trip to the US, he will bring with him the number for which we have made a deposit. In essence, then, the shipping cost from the UK to the US is pretty much “zero”. There will be shipping costs from San Diego County to you. While originally we hoped Trevor might be coming over in May, those plans have been moved back, pending his business, etc. There is a group of us who have made a $50. deposit on these new badge bars. We are HOPING the final price to be around $100., plus shppg. Neither Trevor nor myself are making any money on this PERIOD. If the cost is less, then it will be less, and if it is more, then it will be more. The current price of the “traditional” badge bar is more, at least the last time I checked into it. Once this initial batch of badge bars has been received and disbursed, then the remaining badge bars being produced will be handed over to a UK supplier, and anyone desiring a badge bar after that, will be dealing with that entity from that point forward.

At this point, the only photo I have is the original one which was on Trevor’s car, back in the 50’s. I’ll try to attach that. A bit of imagination is required to picture it installed, with badges, on our cars. I have no picture of it installed on a car, sorry.

If you’ve already ordered, consider this an update. If you want to order one, please contact me off-group.
