[Zmagnette] First Gear Clankety Clank

Unfortunately for you, that is the characteristic of a dead gearbox.
Standard "gearbox kit" was 1st gear, laygear, layshaft, bearings, 2nd 
synchro ring, and gaskets.
All 3 synch MG/Mag/A/B needed these all the time. I did hundreds of 
them. (same for the smaller A series Morris/spridget/mini ones)
If you drain the oil you will likely find a lot of shiny, hard metal - 
that was the teeth off 1st and the laygear. If all the pieces are small, 
you might get away with driving it gently when in 1st/rev for quite a 
while, but if you find large pieces of teeth, death is imminent.
