Frank, my Series 2 has " headers" of tubular steel with 2 pipes on each
branch connected to a "Y" pipe near the bellhousing. I suspect the word
"refinement" is because, to take the starter motor out requires you to
remove the intake manifold and exhaust "headers", if you can get the darn
things separated from the rest of the exhaust system !! The later series
having only a single downpipe alleviated this problem, I think. Has anybody
been watching the British detective series called
"Anna-Lee"? The main character drives a Series 3 which breaks down allot
!!
In the last episode I saw, she changed the starter motor before
breakfast !
Obviously I'm missing something !
