To mod or not to mod (was Maybe a series II)

After several days away from the keyboard I was happy to see that I had
actually trigered a "thread." The December "Classic Auto Restorer" has a
feature entitled Classic or Custom? They even discuss a mild customization
with the intent of doing a full restoration later when more money is available.
The discussion is mostly about American cars but the issues are similar. I have
always thought that hot-rodding was a waste of unique vehicles but I must
admit to an occasional fantasy about dropping a V-8 in a Morris Minor ;-).
