Frank, I have been this route and I'm not sure it makes
much difference. I switched to the spin on type with no change.
All the stuff I read from the SAOC tells you to change the relief valve
in the base. The only improvement I found was to change to 20/50
Penzoil from 20/50 Castrol - It seems to provide more pressure
at hot idle. Last year I installed a stock oil cooler from a
Series 5. That helped too. Even so, at hot idle it sits at 15 psi. It used
to
bother me, but most articles I've read indicate its common and don't
worry about it !! I would like to replace the oil pump sometime
but I have not found a source for the earlier series. I've noticed that
the brass 'T' at the top of the oil feed to the rockers appears to be
leaking, but I have not got round to replacing it yet. I was talking to
a local mechanic who is restoring a Series 5 and he replaced the
oil pump and found no change in pressure !! So who knows - I've
decided to ignore the gauge and drive it!!! Good luck
