What is the value of a good Alpine?
I love Alpines, but the thing that has always frustrated me is the
high percentage of them out there that have been jury-rigged,
duct-taped and hybridized beyond all recognition. Granted, many of
these mods make the car better, but it is hard sometimes to see the
Alpine through all the duct tape. And these messy ones often sell
for $3500 - $4000 if they run.
I am not embarrassed to reveal that I paid $5,000 for my Alpine. I
know that is the upper end of the scale of what they go for, but it
is a 1966 with 44,000 original (and documented) miles, in perfect
running shape and perfectly stock. Some have said I paid more than
it's worth, but it was certainly worth the extra $1,000 - $1500 over
the messes that I've seen.
