The snake's brake reservoirs are separate metal "glue-cans" mounted on
the firewall. Originally I left the plastic anti-slosh(?) thingies
inside, but the fluid kept seeping out from under the lids. Finally I
took the plastic gizmos out and was able to get the lids to seal
properly.

Girling LMA is okay if it's flushed every year or two. Silicone fluid
won't eat paint but you do want to avoid getting it on the exterior of
your car. It leaves a nearly impossible to remove residue which can
cause fisheying if you ever have to repaint that area.
