Mazdas and Real Alpines

I got to ride in Rod Guerras Rotory Alpine last weekend. This
is the one built by Tom Hall that Gary mentioned. I found it to
be pleasing and fun with more than enough go! I know there
are some who may be lurking out there who might think this
car to be somehow unworthy but what more could you want, I
mean short of a Tiger? It ran well with lots of smooth power,
the swap was exceptionally clean and with the hood down the
car looked basically stock. Steve has used a Tiger rear because
he found the stock Alpine unit to be unacceptably weak when
asked to transmit the additional power, not good news I
thought. If I can find fault (didn't you know I would?) it
would be that reportadly a lot of surgery had to be done to
accomodate the mazda five speed. Perhaps a different
engine/tranny combo might avoid this (?).

Rob says that this car does well when it runs autocross with
some fairly serious Tiger competition. Hey wait, maybe I just
found another fault!
