I got to see under the car in great detail since it was put up on a lift and
used as an example of what an Alpine should look like for TAC training. The
exhaust routing was interesting. The mazda exhaust starts out on the wrong
side of the car (just like another engine I could mention) so it had to be
routed back to the drivers side under the transmission tail shaft. It then
went through the hole in the Xmember like a stock alpine. There were a total
of three mufflers/resonators, two were located under the trunk floor with
pipes/mufflers making an S configuration. I think this accounts for the
melting lip stick. There were heat shields for the fuel line.
Rob said he needed the extra silencers to make the thing tolerably quiet,
probably a matter of personal preference. I don't think Gregs is too loud
(most might) and Robs was way way quieter than that with the extra plumbing.
