I believe the word was "PROPER," As in "Aaaah Yes! Now that's
a Proper Alpine," which I heard from a no-doubt REAL Englishman!
Methinks maybe mine is flawed a bit though; only leaks but a
dribble or two of oil here and there. It keeps its fuel
contained, and the coolant too! Well, I'm sure I can fix
that as soon as I start paying "proper attention" to the
old girl!
I got bumpers from P.J. Krueger in Texas a week or so ago,
along with a box of other bits and pieces. The front bumper
that he sold me is so straight, you can actually tell which
way is up and which way is down!
One of the really NEAT things about the Proper Alpine is
the lack of outside door handles. I know Tiger and <improper?>
Alpine people who have spend great sums to regress their
respective rides to that level of elegance!
And let's not forget the ignition timing advance
from the cockpit! Reminds me fondly of the '29
Model A I had in high school.
Is it springtime yet? Methinks this should
be the year we drive the Proper Alpine to
a Tiger club meeting. . . Yes!
<We had a young fellow at an autocross in San Diego
last year who caught a lot of flak from one of the
resident "old-fart" drivers because he couldn't
drive the pick-'em-up that they used to haul
workers (it's a really, really BIG site). Seems
the truck had this funny three-speed, column-shift
thingy and he just couldn't comprehend the concept.
Wonder what a "Proper" four-on-the-tree would have
done to the lad's self-esteem?)
