Hooking up An Ammeter

After a long search, I've tracked down a nice Lucas ammeter for
my Series V Apline (35-0-35). Being a relative novice in this
field, I am hoping that someone would be willing to explain how
to wire this up. The guage has a red wire coming out the back
with a cylinder-shaped plug. Many thanks.
