For a long time now, I've been interested in getting an overdrive
transmission for my Alpine Series 5. Given the state of the car for
the past couple of years (engine out & in pieces), the o/d search has
not been very intense. However, out of the blue recently I got a
line on one near here. But I have no idea what these things are
worth, nor do I know the asking price. So my question is, what's the
going rate for an o/d tranny for an S.5 these days? I don't want to
get ripped off, but I'm willing to pay a fair price.
I'm also told that the driveshaft will have to be shortened in order
for the o/d to fit. Makes sense, but is it true?
