The 3.70:1 diff comes from the later fastback Alpine GT - automatic tranny
only. This and the normal 3.89:1 diff found in the fastbacks are usable in
Series V's (and IV's??), but you must exchange the input coupling with the
one off your Series car, as the fastback part is longer and allows less free
travel for the driveshaft. Note also: The housing seal around this coupling
may be different from the Series V, if the part numbers mean anything. The
fit seems to be the same - mine have had no leakage problems so far.

Although these units will usually have had fewer and less strenuous miles
(people started turned the fastbacks into garden planters soon after Chrysler
stopped importing and supporting them), be sure to check the bolts which
hold the crown wheel in place before installing the unit. The bolts have the
same tendency to loosen with time (due to the soft tab washers underneath),
and crack and break, as in the Series Alpines.
