Subject: Re: Clutch
It probably goes without saying, but be sure to remove all carburetor
linkage that might get jammed up when you tilt the engine back to remove the
transmission. I've known at least one person who didn't - it wasn't a prett
y
site.
Also, I always loosen the bolts holding the motor mounts. It doesn't
allow much extra movement, but it seems to be enough to help avoid tearing u
p
the mounts.

***** NOTES from JLAIFMAN (JLAIFMAN (at) PNM) at 8/18/95 10:00a
Let me get this straight, to remove the transmission without removing
the engine, you have to remove the radiator, disconnect the motor mounts,
exhaust pipe, and carburetor linkage, remove the starter and clutch slave
cylider, and undo all the transmission bolts, just so you can have the
trasmission drop on to your chest. When that's all said and done, there
is very little that has not been done which is necessary to take the
engine out in the first place. Although it seemed like a good idea
before, I have to say that after reading everyone's suggestions, I might
just remove the engine -- that will also allow not having to align the
clutch plate upsidedown and backwards. My only warning to everyone (which
I fortunately have not had personal experience) is to be very careful
where and how you place your bonnet! I have seen them fall and I have
seen them stepped on - its not a pretty sight.
