I had the extreme pleasure to meet Mark Olson today at the British Car
Meet. He even took the time to hook up his computer to my car to check the
tach. Well, I thought that I had problems before but now I realize that
there is a whole new issue. According to Mark's computer when my tach is
reading 5000 my motor is really turning about 7500, and that when turning
5000 my tach reads 3800. The good news is that up to 2000 it is accurate. My
main concern, other that I have been giving my motor some serious abuse, is
that when I drive at approx. 3800 in top gear (5000 in reality) I am doing
about 70 MPH. I checked the accuracy of my speedo tonight and it seems to be
pretty close. So the question is, what the hell rear-end do I have back
there? When I bought the car I was told it was a 3.56. It doesn't seem that
is true, more like 4.11 sounds closer. Could someone send me the formulas
that were given last week. In my infinate wisdom didn't save them. Thanx.
Doesn't everyone get 7 MPG highway?

***** NOTES from Jay Laifman (JLAIFMAN (at) PNM) at 9/11/95 6:07a
And now after I have applied the equations to my car, knowing my rear-end
and tire rolling radius, I realize that my tach has been reading
approximately 600 rpm too high all these years! Just think of all the
fun I've been missing!
