I am hoping that some of the Ford experts out there might be able
to provide some information on smaller Ford engines. I have been
looking at a late 1960s Marcos that has a Ford 1600 engine. Is
anyone familiar with this? The Marcos is a very light (wood
chasis, fiberglass body) coup that incorporated a series of
different engines in the mid- to late-60s. It started with a
Volve 1800. Later it had a Ford 1500, then 1650, and finally the
1600 that is in the car I'm considering. I'm interested in
learning about all aspects of the engine -- power, drivability on
the roads (not racing), reliability, maintenance, parts
availability, etc.
To fill out the story, when the Marcos was
imported into the US in 1970, it had a 3 liter Volve V-6. I
think that V-6 Ford engines were used in early 1970s British
models.
I realize that this is a bit off the track (and I
apologize for that), but I would greatly appreciate any
information you can offer. Thanks in advance.

***** NOTES from Jay Laifman (JLAIFMAN (at) PNM) at 9/11/95 10:02a
I don't know much about the car itself, although I do remember reading
about the history of Marcos in a Classics & Sportscar issue within the
last year. I also have a catalog from a place called Pegasus Auto Racing
Supplies in New Berlin, Wisconsin (414) 782-0880 that sells all sorts of
engine parts for Formula Ford 1600 engines -- and everything else for that
matter from brakes to racing clothes to seat belts. I bought a special
master cylinder from them to fit with my Holbay conversion.
