I'm pretty sure this was intended for the list, not just for me. My apologies
to dgb if I am in error.

All I can say about this is that I've always heard that you should never,
Never, NEVER drive in reverse with the overdrive engauged or "BAD" things will
happen. I always wondered if this was true and what exactly was ment by "BAD"
things, I guess I now know.

Don't forget to get that relay fixed after all this is sorted out.

Good luck!

The driveshaft attaches to the annulus.

At the beginning of the splines on the Annulus - it broke.

Imagine twisting a newspaper until it shreds and you have the picture.

Question:

Is there an easy way to repair this?

Should I find a good used overdrive?

Why did this occur?

For the last question I will give you the scenario...

It would appear the relay was not kicking out. The wind caught my NO FEAR
hat and I stopped and backed up. This made a horrendous noise which I
assume was the tearing of the spline. It sounded similar to the splines in
the wire wheels when they wear so much that the tire grinds them flat.

What inside the overdrive would allow this to occur?

Your thoughts would be appreciated...
