Re: Gas Tanks & Animals

A couple of years ago I did my snake's tank with a kit I got from a
motorcycle shop. The brand name of the kit was Kreem and it came with a
detergent to clean the inside of the tank, a phosphoric acid solution to
remove rust and what I think was straight MEK to remove moisture after
the cleaning and acid rinse. The kits only come with a pint of sealer,
which is a bit of a stretch for an 18 gallon a car tank, but you can buy
extra sealer. My tank took about a quart.

The big problem I had was the damage done to the tank by the radiator
shop I took it to initially to have it repaired. It took me several
weeks to undo what this place had done and to clean up the mess they
made. In fact, I'm still not sure the damage wasn't beyond permanent
repair, but a new tank cost A LOT so I'm going with the old one for now.
I'm sure you old time british-cars subscribers have already had your
fill of my tales of woe on this subject, so I won't bore this list with
the details.

So far it's holding, but I keep my fingers crossed.

I don't want to malign anyone's business publicly, but anyone living in
the south S.F. Bay area interested in the name of the shop can send me
private email. I will say that it was a chain operation, which I would
normally avoid since these places tend to have a formula approach to
their work which they try to apply to every case, but it came with a
rather good recommendation so I gave it a try.

Roland
