New old car

Well, I've been looking for more complication of my life, in the form of
another car to restore, and now I've bought one. I've been looking for
either an Alpine Series IV or V, or an MGBGT.

There was a 66 series V Alpine advertised on the alpine list Wed, within
driving distance. I had Thursday free, so I went to see it and bought it.

It's an early 66 Series V. It hasn't been driven for 16 years, so it
will need a complete restoration. I had thought a rolling restoration
would be a pleasant change from my experience with Kermit the
bugeye--I spent 4 years working, wondering all the while if I would like
the result. But this car looks like an excellent candidate for a
ground up, and in all probability I'd have ended up doing that anyway.

At least I'll not have to worry whether I will like it. I had a 67 Series
V Alpine from 71 to 73. I regret ever selling it; now I have a chance to
undo that mistake.

Now I just have to figure a way to get it 190 miles through the mountains
to my home before the snow starts, and I have to find somewhere the self
control not to start the car restoration until I finish the house
restoration. It's difficult when you don't have a spouse, and have to
think for yourself. (My special friend Shirley thinks this is a little
odd, but not objectionable. I am beginning (late) to understand some of
this relationship business. I have stopped and looked at every fast
motorcycle I have seen for sale by the road for several months now. So my
decision to buy another car that does not run, coupled with a loss of
interest in motorcycles, is viewed as a return to my senses.)

I hope Kermit and the Alpine become friends. I will post more about the
Alpine next spring, when I start working on it. This winter, the house
has to get finished. Or close to finished--I can start the car when the
house is close; I don't have to wait for it to be *completely* done.
