When I was looking for my Tiger, I was told to avoid this sort of thing
since the sills are critical to the unibody structure. When I got my
Alpine many years ago, it had a saucer sized rust spot on the sill just
behind and below the drivers door. Being ignorant of the consequences,
I just fiberglassed it over - and the car is still drivable today!
This is also a black plate original CA car.

You could get a new (used) trunk lid and respray in the worst case...
as was mentioned, these don't usually have a rust problem. Glass is
also readily available.

IMHO, that's a little steep. With the market the way it is nowadays,
it seems like you should be able to get it for less...
