Since I started this, my Series V, and most I have seen, has an aluminum
valve cover that looks as follows:
------------
/ \
/ +----------+ \
| | | | - On my original, this is just a raised
| +----------+ | rectangle; on new one it says "SUNBEAM"
| |
| /\ |
| / \ | - On my original, this is just a raised
| < > | diamond (with rounded corners); on my
| \ / | new one it says "S".
| \/ |
| |
. .
. .
| ooo |
| ooSHELLoo | - On my original, this is a twist off top
| ooo | that says Shell, and has an output for
\________________/ ventilation to the air cleaners; on my
new one, there is not vent and a press on cap.
As you have seen by the messages, the earlier cars came with no diamond,
raised or with an S, but it said Sunbeam in the rectangle, and I believe
the part between the letters was painted black. Some cars, maybe as a
racing option, maybe to commemorate Le Mans, and maybe from a Rapier, had
as I just purchased.
The guy I bought mine from has some without the S but with the Sunbeam if
you want.
