Assuming that someone didn't paint the aluminum valve cover (wouldn't be the
first time), it sounds like you have a steel valve cover. I believe Aluminum
covers were used on Alpines and Rapiers only, the rest (Minx, Gazelle, Super
Minx, etc.) had steel.
Another thought on your engine # : Another Rootes product often found in
the U.S. in the early '60's was the Commer/Sunbeam Fun Wagon. I've seen a
few with the 1592cc four-banger swapped out in favor of something bigger.
It came originally with a cast iron head, so It would have to have had the
cam swapped to be able to use the Alpine's aluminum head, but its
possible.................
