Greetings!
Being new to this little group I thought I would take a minute and tell you
about my latest project. I have recently started a restoration of a 1955
Sunbeam Alpine roadster that I have had for several years now. The car is
relatively complete, very little rust, good top and interior (original I
think). The engine was running until the car was put into storage a couple of
years ago. The main problem is the transmission. With the column shift
pattern reversed, the tranny got abused in a major way and I think is a
hopeless case.
The problem I am having is getting my hands on parts. From what I
understand Alpines weren't officially imported into the States untill the
late '50's (at least in sufficient numbers for readily available spares). I
have heard of people mixing and matching MGB engines and tranny's with the
early alpines. Anyone with any thoughts on that? At this point I am ready
to try just about anything to get it back on the road. I am also interested
in anyone with spare bits cluttering up a dark corner of thier garage.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
