I just received a call from Jarrid Gross who has built an injection
system for his Series II. He drives it and races it at Willow Springs.
He called because he wants to buy a Weber manifold and make it so that
he can switch between Webers and his injection (which by the way makes
6). It all sounds very wild. I don't know much about injection but I
will try to repeat some of the details he gave me.
He took a Series II manifold and cut it off at about 4" from the intake
ports. He welded a box on the end and attached an air door from a 3.2
Chevy Corsica. He also attached 4 injector bosses from a 1996 1.9 Ford
Escort (which he says are a bit too big for the engine). He figures he
has about 100 to 105 horsepower with the set up. He designed and built
the computer and programs running it (he is a computer programmer by
trade). He now runs the car up to 6500 rpm with a stock cam and wants to
get it up to 7500 with a better cam, hoping to push 148 horsepower at the
maximum - according to his calculations. He figures that with injection,
there is no venturi to cause the problems associated with all carbs.
". . . but I'd rather be blown"
