This is the same as the situation in Australia, where during the sixties,
Rootes were the third biggest car supplier also. There was an interesting
article in the paper a couple of weeks back. We were getting CKD cars and
they were assembled and painted here, the article said that the paint
facility that Rootes had here was equal to the best in the world and perhaps
was the best. This could be true from my experience. The number of Rootes
cars that I see here parked on the streets with fabulous unrestored paint is
incredible. The Minx I bought had been a paddock bomb for years and after I
gave it a cut and polish I was endlessly asked who had resprayed it, the
paint was fantastic. The number of unrestored Alpines is far fewer but
there are some around.
