Nope. They only keep out the small gravel. Just like th eold wire
mesh one that I had on my orginal Solex on me 65 series IV. Dust, fine
dirt, bugs, and small rodents would pass right through. Thats why my
car only had 80 psi of compression after 55,000 miles. The the #3
Piston melted while floored going up a small hill. Too much blow by for
the piston to handle.

(You guessed it, it was hard to start, since you basically need about
100 psi of compression to get an engine to start normally with a normal
mixture. I figured the car had maby 40 hp when it finally died)
