Never had the experience with an Alpine but - I recently bought a Ford
minivan which I discovered would put on a mild shimmy through the steering
wheel when coming to an easy stop as you describe. The dealer/salesmen said
it was probably the rotors being worn unevenly and a turning of same would
fix the problem. He was right - but as I had already taken delivery of the
vehicle I had to split the cost of the work 50/50 (no warranty on 10 yr old
vehicles) - it cost me $80 but it did fix the problem. Could be you have
the same problem? He said it's a common problem with disc brakes.

Good luck,
