clutch problems, brake bleeding, etc.

Been away from town for a few days, so just catching up on mail and stuff.

Derek, Bert, and Roland touched on hydraulic bleeding issues. Roland
mentioned the Eezibleed. I use a similar contraption called a Mityvac. It
is worth its weight in gold. Joan used to get kind of testy when I made her
get up in the lifted car and then "Push, hold, release - Push, hold, release
- Push, hold, release. . .", etc., etc. This vacuum unit is faster and
easier. The basic brake bleeding unit is about $27. It can also be dressed
up as a vacuum line and gauge tester for about another $17. Available at
better parts stores everywhere!? Well, J C Whitney anyhow.

As to the clutch release (throwout) bearing drag - mine is so bad that I
rarely can start the car with the clutch depressed. Gotta put it in neutral
and let the pedal out. Bert may have hit on a solution - prelube it by oil
soak before installation. Don't have any idea how long that might last but
it can't hurt anything.

As to the turn signal switch location - my series 1 bought new had the switch
on the left.
My series 2 has it on the right. I thought the PO might have done that so I
switched it to the left - it's simple to do - but it wouldn't stay in right
turn mode, so I changed it back. The problem probably was worn springs, but
I couldn't find replacements when I was in the mood to fool around with it.
