A few weeks ago there was a discussion about hub removal. I read but felt
that it did not apply to me...until today.
I have had 4 Alpines, and never driven even 1. My current 63 series II
has been in the garage for 10 years. As I went to move it out of the
garage yesterday, i noticed that the rear end had frozen. i immediately
called a buddy of mine who had worked at a Sunbeam dealership in the late
60's. He said that it was not the rear end, but rather the brakes tight
against the hub. I tried to remove the hub and was easily discouraged.
I then turned to the factory manual that suggested that I had to
untighten a square nut on the inside of the wheel, above the hub..I did
this with the wire wheeel removed, and the hub, with a few wacks from a
rubber hammer came off.
Perhaps this is of some help. I remember reading that some guy had to
have it pressed on and off. YIKES. mine did not move and only took two
hours.
It was only a 1 line mention in the workshop manual, but it saved a lot
of time, grief and replacement.
Hope I could help,
