From the LUCAS Equipment catalogue for Rootes cars 1962 and 1963 we have the
following:

Series 2 and 3 Alpines, under bonnet lamp is model PIL, part #39023A
the picture shows a rectangular clear plastic assembly, a tab on each side to
receive the screws to secure the unit to the cowl; it takes a 12 volt, 6 watt
bulb (#254); it is not clear which switch it requires but I'm sure it's the same
standard switch used for the panel lights, optional fog / spot lamps, etc.

I have looked for this optional accessory for years and have come up empty; good
