Here's a tech tip from the Midwest Sunbeam Club's files: Alpine 5's with the
twin
Stromberg 150 carbs can use a K&N filter. First, you have to cut apart the old
factory-type filter assy, and remove the glue which bonded the elements to each
assy., then you will need to flatten the tabs on the inside of each assy.
half. Next,
make 2" long spacers out of, say, copper tubing of an ID closest to 5/16",
which is
the size of the bolts which hold the assys to the carbs. The K&N filter part
# for this
mod is: E3220. Order two, of course. If you so desire, the assy. halves can be
chrome-plated for a "show" look. You can still hook up the original hose which
connects to each carb. The benefits of K&N filters are: increased CFM airflow to
each carb, and much better filtration, too! Doug Ferrell.
