Well, it's a good thing Scott isn't close by - I would have bet a lot of
money that he was wrong with the supposition that the SB meant sealed beam.
I guess Tom has the documentation to back him up. But I don't understand
why it seems to be unique or at least most prevalent to Series 3 Alpines.
But, over the years I've gathered that even the British don't understand the
British motorcar industry, so we Yanks are whistling against the wind trying
to figure 'em out.
This does make me wonder, Scott, if the SB is also stamped on the engine
block. I always thought it peculiar that the LRX, HRO, etc. suffixes were
included on the engine stamping when the motor didn't care which side the
steering wheel was on.
Can you fill us in there?
Scott mentions one of the 3s he has registered is "French-built". I thought
the knock-downs were supposed to have a KD suffix and were only supplied to
Italy, South Africa, and Australia. Do we have a new thread here?
Now, a whole 'nother thing. Have you noticed over the past few years that
the brake replacement parts come in boxes labeled "Lucas Girling"? The way
we bash Lucas electricals, don't you just get a little lump in your gut when
you push on the slow pedal?
"Ole"
