Oil Pressure Problems

Hi, folks...
Just adding a little more info to the oil pressure discussion...
While rebuilding (and heavily modifying) the 1725 for my 1967 Sunbeam
Highwayman (a Commer camper) I found that under the timing cover is a little
oil tube that lubes the timing chain. This tube screws into a fitting in the
end of the oil passage in the block. On page 10 of my 1725 wokshop manual,
there is a blowup of the little check ball and spring that live in that
fitting. After taking apart all three of the fittings that I had on various
core motors, I discovered that the check valve ball had been forced INTO the
spring on ALL of them, so the check valve was no longer functioning. This
could lead to a loss of oil in the block when the engine has been sitting for
a while....a problem that my camper DID have before the rebuild.
(The engine isn't back together yet....almost.)
I also have a 66 SerV that has travelled more than 120,000 miles on
the original engine with no more than gaskets ever being replaced....and she
starts right up with almost no lag in oil pressure( unless she's been sitting
for like a year or so). But I'm NOT about to take it apart to check the check
valve.
This is my first contribution to the Alpine net - I'm also working on
a tech tip to install a 90 amp Bosch alternator from a VW....on my car right
now, NO permanent mods to the wiring harness, TOTALLY reversible and
eliminates the relay, regulator, Prince of Darkness alternator, and warning
lamp simulator . More on this to come.

Hope this is of some help.....
