THis is also common for aircraft. Since overhauling a small 4 cylinder
aircraft engine can START at $10,000, airplane owners tend to be paranoid
about their engines.

It turns out that it is even more valuable to do the analysis on a regular
basis, so you can spot trends in the contaminants. If you suddenly get copper
in your oil, for instance, and you know you have copper-backed bearings, it's
time to fix them.
