Scotty,
I bought a new padded dash from Sunbeam Specialties (408) 371-1641. It
really looks great. There are a few tricks to it. I would suggest, and
double suggest, reading their instructions more than once and slowly
visualizing each step before even attempting it.
One thing I had problems with was the rear (front?) edges along the sides
of the window screen. Let me try to pinpoint the spots better first:
looking at your dash, where the "roll" curves down to the very outside of
the dash and meets the weather stripping that comes down the sides of the
windshield and then wraps down and back along the front of the door
opening. Ok? Do you know where I mean?
There is loose material here on the pad from Sunbeam Specialties. And,
the metal edge where the weather stripping goes over is right there too.
I cut the loose material so that the metal could go through it. I now
think that what I should have done is cut the material wide so that it
would fold back into the gap between the metal and pad leaving a clean
edge, not a cut one.
I think this is impossible to describe without pictures. If anyone is
really interested, I'll send you a drawing to explain it. Just ask.
